Anyone else starting to feel like you’re losing your mind during this crazy time?! Being stuck at home can get boring FAST, so here are a few fun ideas to keep busy while we ride out this pandemic (which hopefully subsides SOON!). Make a “quarantine bucket list” and see how many new things you can accomplish during the next week or so. 🙂
Bake and Ice Cookies
When is decorating cookies ever a bad idea?! Sugar cookies are my favorite to make and decorate. They’re easy, fun, and delicious! Check out my cookie Pinterest board for some inspiration.
Decorate for Easter
Easter is only a few weeks away, so it’s about time to pull out those decorations! Also a great time to do some online shopping at Pottery Barn or Target for some new decor. 🙂
Start Some Spring Cleaning
Well if you’re going to be stuck at home, might as well, right?! I always love a good clean-out/organizing sesh. What have you been dying to organize recently? Maybe it’s your closet, bathroom, pantry, jewelry… I could easily spend an entire day purging and re-organizing. Check out Home Edit for inspiration — I love their products and tips & tricks!
Try a Home Workout
This is hard for me because I love class workouts, and unfortunately, all studios and gyms are closed during this weird time. To add insult to injury, it’s rainy here in Austin ALL week, so an outdoor run isn’t even an option! So, a home workout it is. I’ve used the Sweat app before, which is great. There’s also Obe, Sworkit, and probably millions more, so now is a great time to explore your home workout options and decide what works best for you. I’m thinking I’m might just stick with Just Dance… 🙂 that counts, right?!
Find a Good Read
My list of books to read is constantly growing, and I never seem to find the time to sit down and start one. And I often fail to finish those that I do start. So, while I’m stuck at home this week, I’m determined to check a few off of my list! Here are some recommendations:
- The Power of Habit — just started this one! I’m definitely a creature of habit and am enjoying reading the science behind forming them.
- The Road Back to You — if you’re into the Enneagram, you’ll love this one. So fascinating!
- No Exit — this is a gripping thriller. It had my heart racing, and I could not put it down!
- Delivering Happiness — this is a business book, and I’m in the middle of it right now. I love reading about success stories, and this one is a very easy but intriguing read authored by the CEO of the shoe-delivery company, Zappos.
- Everybody, Always — I LOVE Bob Goff! This is a great book if you’re wanting to deepen your faith with the Lord and learn more about what mean to truly love Him and His people. It’s also a great pick-me-up kind of read; Bob Goff has the best stories.
- Welcome to Adulting — The pastor at my church in Waco wrote this book, and it’s full of great wisdom. It’s a perfect for young adults who want to learn how to navigate adulthood as a follower of Christ.
Make a Tik Tok
Do you have a Tik Tok?! I finally jumped on the bandwagon and made an account, and it has been keeping me very entertained lol. I’ve been having fun trying to copy dances, which has made me realize how extremely uncoordinated I am haha. But it’s so much fun. Give me a follow @kamrho and enjoy some awkward dance moves! lol.
If Tik Tok doesn’t interest you, another great option to lift your mood is an at-home dance party! Turn up your favorite tunes and dance it out 🙂 Check out my mood booster playlist!
Try a New Hairstyle or Makeup Look
I used to watch Mindy McKnight’s CuteGirlsHairstyles youtube channel all the time and taught myself how to braid my own hair. I got pretty good at it! I’ve also used to youtube to learn how to curl my own hair with a curling wand. Experimenting with makeup is fun too! Although I usually don’t wear more than a little foundation and mascara, sometimes it’s fun to try new looks. Are there any looks or new products you’ve been wanting to try? Being stuck at home is a great time to try new hairstyles or makeup!
Learn How to Edit Your Own Pictures
This may not be for everyone, but it’s a hobby I’ve picked up recently! I use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to edit my pictures. I’m no pro, but I have been enjoying watching videos on youtube to learn how to use all of the features. I’ve even made some of my own presets on Lightroom. If you’re not into photography or editing photos, take some time to teach your yourself a new hobby that interests you!
Go for a Drive
If the weather is decent, go for a drive to get out of the house a little bit. Are there any scenic routes near where you live? Roll the windows down, turn up the music, and enjoy some fresh air! It can be SO refreshing after being indoors all day.
Find a Recipe to Try
I love to cook but often don’t have the time to try new recipes when I’m at school. So this time at home is a perfect time spend at home is a perfect time to explore Pinterest for new meal ideas 🙂 I have an Instant Pot (which I LOVE) and really enjoy finding new instant pot friendly meals to cook. This week, I made chicken taco bowls, which were SO yummy and also SO easy to make. Check out the recipe here.
It’s easy to complain and dwell on the many events and experiences we are missing out on, but let this time be a reminder of all we have to be thankful for. Love on your family, FaceTime your good friends, and count your blessings. It’s surely a weird time, but let’s make the best of it!
